More often than not, my daughter will say “no want to put on sunscreen” when she knows I’m about to come at her with some sunscreen before going outside in the morning. I usually have to wrestle with her a bit before she finally gives in to my persistent efforts to smear some on her. Since I don’t always feel too confident about how evenly I’ve applied her sunscreen, I’ve started relying on a sunscreen stick as an extra layer of insurance after we go outdoors.

No matter how well you formulate a mineral sunscreen, it’s bound to leave some sort of white cast on your skin. In my experience, the only remedy for this problem is to (a) own the ghostly look with confidence; (b) opt for a chemical sunscreen; or (c) cover it up with makeup or, better yet, for those of us who don’t know how to use makeup…try out a tinted mineral sunscreen!

Honest Company Fragrance Free Conditioner review

Mineral sunscreen, conditioner, and hand lotion are the top three types of products I buy all the time. I’m pretty loyal to a product once I find a version I like, but I’m not afraid to try other brands every now and then just to see if something better has appeared on the horizon. Conditioner is a particularly tricky one because I find that my hair’s needs depend on the environment.

The water in my apartment is so hard that it leaves mineral deposits on my sink and bathtub—and it’s also the bane of my hair’s existence. It makes my hair feel dull and oily, no matter how often I wash it. I recently bought a bottle of CLR cleaner and it’s been a game changer. But unfortunately, solving the problem for my hair is a more complicated matter. After all, I can’t just spray some CLR cleaner on my hair and call it a day.

Odele Fragrance-free Conditioner review

I try to use fragrance-free hair care products whenever possible, just because I have to apply them with my hands and my eczema gets worse when it’s exposed to potential irritants like fragrances. But it’s really tough to find shampoos and conditioners that are fragrance free and effective. When I do find a fragrance-free product, it’s pretty basic. Meanwhile, all the other shampoos and conditioners claim to help boost shine, moisturize hair, and more.

La Roche Posay Anthelios Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 Review

I’m a pretty frugal person, but I still get the urge to splurge once in a while. And I usually don’t feel too guilty about splurging on sunscreen because it’s an essential product. A few weeks ago, I impulsively purchased a bottle of La Roche Posay Anthelios Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50. I bought it on a whim after skimming a few reviews online, and hoped for the best. The reviews were typical of a mineral sunscreen—hard to apply, leaves a white cast, yada yada—so I wasn’t scared off by the reviews…but I should have done a bit more research before buying it.

Another day, another zinc oxide-based sunscreen to review. Today I’m going to share a review of a sunscreen I first started using last summer: Hello Bello Minteral Sunscreen SPF 55+. I liked it enough to bring it on vacation to Hawaii, and it did its job. We didn’t get sunburned! And the water resistance was put ot the test because we were outside walking around (i.e., sweating) and swimming. It’s marketed to babies, but it works well on adults, too.

When you become a parent, you don’t just have to deal with sleep deprivation—you also have a ton more dishes to do (if you’re bottle feeding). Dirty bottles and breast pump parts will haunt you until you find yourself falling asleep at the kitchen sink, still only halfway through all the dishes you have to do. On top of that, you have other things to think about when you’re washing baby stuff.

Shopping at Trader Joe’s was always such an ordeal when I lived in NYC. Right when you get in the store, you see the back of the line, because it snakes around the entire store. It’s actually more efficient to go there with a partner, so one person can stand in line while the other weaves through the aisles and frantically swipes items off the shelves. It is not a relaxing experience, to say the least.

Sun Bum Mineral Lip Balm review

Chapped lips are a nuisance—and they can get so bad that it becomes painful to eat (one of my favorite activities!). I was recently reading a book where this was the case for a little girl who couldn’t stop using Lip Smacker lip gloss and licking it off her lips. Licking your lips only makes them more dry, sadly…so it became a vicious cycle for her. Another character in the book recommended using Vaseline, which makes me respect this author more.

Aveeno Baby Daily Moisture Lotion review

Before I had a baby, I imagined that babies had perfect skin. Isn’t that why there’s that expression, “smooth as a baby’s bottom?” But it turns out that babies deal with a ton of skin issues. Some of them are mostly cosmetic (like baby acne and cradle cap), but others require treatment (like eczema).
I was hoping that my baby would inherit her father’s skin instead of mine, but it seems that I might have passed down my eczema to her.

Target Up & Up Advanced Repair Body Lotion Review: A dupe worth its weight in gold

Vaseline Intensive Care Advanced Repair Body Lotion is a mainstay of my bedside table. It’s the lotion I use every night before I drift off to sleep (and the lotion I reapply every time I wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, ha). I don’t think I can fall asleep without slathering it on my hands first…the sleep association is that strong. It’s not an expensive product, but I’ve always been curious about the store-brand dupes I’ve seen at places like Walgreen’s and Target.

Supergoop Mineral Sheer Screen Sunscreen SPF 30 is the most elegant mineral/physical sunscreen I’ve ever tried. It’s impressive that it doesn’t contain any chemical sunscreen filters, because it blends in just like a chemical sunscreen would. Because it’s not water resistant, I only use it sparingly (whenever I’m sure I’m not going to sweat). But whenever I do use it, it’s always a treat.

Supergoop Mineral Sheer Screen Sunscreen SPF 30 ingredients My Dad the Chemist’s review of Supergoop Mineral Sheerscreen Sunscreen SPF 30 My dad immediately wanted me to test the water resistance of this sunscreen.

Cetaphil Sheer Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 Review

Cetaphil makes some of the most trustworthy skin care products you’re likely to find at the drugstore today. Lots of people have raved about their lotions, including me. But a few months ago, I tried one of their sunscreens, and I could instantly understand why this company isn’t famous for its sunscreen. I’ve only used it a few times because it makes me look like a ghost, so I tend to reach for other sunscreens instead of this one.

Purell Hand Sanitizer Review: A dependable product to get you through cold/flu season

In the times of yore, hand sanitizer was something we only thought about once in a while. Until 2020, it probably wasn’t something the average person used every day. Now that it has become more of a go-to item in our everyday lives, it makes sense to look at this type of product under a more critical lens, just like any other skin care product. Fun/slightly embarrassing fact: I’ve always liked the smell of rubbing alcohol, aka isopropyl alcohol, ever since I was a kid.
